Time-and-material reports
A daywork report is the daily record of work billed not at a fixed price but by effort: hours, materials and machines, countersigned on site.
Definition
The countersignature is the actual content. A report without the site manager’s signature is, in a dispute, an assertion; with a signature it is evidence. It therefore comes into being where the work happens, not in the office in the evening.
Daywork is the most frequent point of dispute in construction accounts, because it runs alongside the works contract and is rarely agreed in advance. Whoever gets it confirmed daily is no longer negotiating at the end.
