The Swiss market imposes requirements that an international solution usually lacks — it is built for other legal systems. Buy from abroad and you notice at the year-end close, in the VAT filing or with the first payroll declaration. These are the points that decide in this category:

TARDOC / TARMEDMedical services are billed under TARMED, which TARDOC replaces from 2026. The software has to carry the new tariff and follow the transition — otherwise billing stops.
Trust CenterBilling to insurers runs through a Trust Center or a clearing office. Without that connection every invoice stays manual work.
MediDataMediData is the common channel for electronic invoice delivery in healthcare. Check whether the connection is included in the price or charged as a module.
Patient data in SwitzerlandPatient data is sensitive personal data, and physicians together with their auxiliaries are bound by professional secrecy under Art. 321 of the Swiss Criminal Code — breaching it is a criminal offence. Hosting abroad is therefore not automatically forbidden, but the vendor becomes an auxiliary and must be contractually bound just as strictly. Establish in writing where the data resides, which subprocessors are involved and whether a foreign authority could compel access.
Ten-year retentionThe Swiss Code of Obligations requires ten years of audit-proof retention – including readability. Clarify what happens to your data after you cancel.
Export and exitBefore signing up, check what an export looks like (entries, documents, master data). A solution without a usable export is a one-way street.
